Sustainability is an issue close to our heart. That’s why we offer organisers the option of holding Green Meetings. These events pay particular attention to saving resources. Because conferences and meetings are associated with high energy consumption, high waste production and increased traffic volumes. However, by taking a number of coordinated measures, Kongresskultur Bregenz manages to minimise their impact on our environment.
With the Austrian "Green Meetings" Ecolabel, The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management has created a quality label which publicly demonstrates a meeting organiser’s environmental management and social responsibility. It has been jointly developed with the conference industry and the Verein für Konsumenteninformation (Austrian Consumers’ Association).

How to hold a Green Meeting
As a licensee, Kongresskultur Bregenz is authorised to award your event the “Green Meeting” standard. Choose, for example, a certified event venue, appropriate hotel and Green Meeting-verified catering, and the first foundation stone has already been laid. Bregenz Festival House already meets almost all of these mandatory criteria. Additional criteria include CO2 offsetting by the organiser, printed documents produced in accordance with defined guidelines and particular attention to environmentally-friendly mobility. Direct access to public transport therefore makes arrival and departure considerably easier – event tickets can easily be used as travel tickets.
As a special service for your participants, we have created the conditions for convenient and uncomplicated bike hire. The bikes are intended to enable them to get to and from their accommodation, take trips into the town centre and also to go on short rides along the shore of Lake Constance. Your project manager will be happy to provide you with more details.
To ensure a smooth lending service, Kongresskultur Bregenz has teamed up with a reliable partner. Integra Vorarlberg is an organisation that combines business with social commitment and additionally offers a range of bike related services. Members of the Integra Vorarlberg team do a variety of activities and receive training, improving their prospects on the job market.
We are particularly pleased that the awarding of the Austrian Ecolabel to Convention Partner Vorarlberg as a licensee has opened the way for Green Meetings in the Vorarlberg area. Together, we are pioneering the reinterpretation of conference tourism. Growing demand proves that we are on the right track.

Recipe for sustainable development
The architecture of the conference centre, which was completely renovated in 2006, already sets standards in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency. But every single employee is also firmly committed to the idea of sustainability. Saving energy has therefore become a matter of course. Special training courses have helped raise awareness and awakened employees’ ambition. The results of their efforts include: a trend-setting waste management concept and the gradual conversion to LED lighting technology – whilst still providing the same quality of service for organisers, of course.
Many of our partners are contractually obliged to operate in a sustainable manner. The Festival House catering menu therefore primarily includes organic and fair-trade food – preferably from the region. Good food is therefore contributing to climate protection and creating regional added value – a great example of the fact that ecology and economy are no longer irreconcilable opposites.

Green Meetings not only allow you to make your mark during the event. You can start using the Ecolabel when promoting your event, thereby demonstrating your sense of responsibility towards people and the environment. Your personal account manager will be on hand with advice and support if you decide to organise your conference as a Green Meeting.
